Should I Start My Own Business?
At some point in everyone’s life, the thought goes through their head of branching out and starting their own business. A lot of people immediately shrug it off due to the possibilities of failure, making less money, and some even just decide it’s too much work. However, for nearly 600,000 people a year, they decide to take the leap of faith and start their own small business. Many of them make the decision for different reasons, but here are some of the most common reasons why people start their own business.
You get to call the shots.
One of the biggest reasons why employees leave their job is because they dislike their boss. Gone are the days of doing things because you were told to. When you start your own business, the only person you have to listen to is yourself. That means you have the power to do things your way and implement your own plans. That may sound scary because all the weight is now on your shoulders! However, if you can handle the pressure, there’s nothing better than the reward that stems from those big time decisions.
You will be passionate about what you do.
A lot of people chose a job mainly because of the money. Which isn’t a bad thing! However, it might not of been the position that you dreamt of your entire life. When you wake up unmotivated about your job, there’s no passion behind the work you are putting out. As an entrepreneur, you get to choose what kind of business you are running. Whether you want to start a restaurant or a software company, do what you are passionate about. When you get to wake up every morning excited to go to work, your performance is going to be that much better. It might take a little longer to make the money you wanted to… but with more passion comes greater success.
You don’t have to clock in.
When you run your own business, you don’t have to work 9-5 with a half hour lunch break. That doesn’t mean you get to sleep until noon either. It just means you get to make your own hours! If you want to get up early and work a couple hours before you go have breakfast with your wife, not a problem. You will need some self-discipline so you don’t get carried away, but in the end you get to set your own deadlines. Set your own targets and push yourself to reach those targets. When business owners get to set their own goals, they become more motivated to work harder and essentially end up driving their business forward.
You get to be creative.
You no longer have to stay inside the lines. You can come up with your own ideas and then branch off of them. You have the freedom to express yourself and show off your concept whichever way you want. See what works and what doesn’t, then evaluate and implement whichever changes you would like to make. You have the power to now continue to create and really show off your vision.
You will learn a lot more.
When you start your own company, you will quickly realize that there is always more to learn. Working for larger companies, you usually get placed in a position that requires you to do one task week in and week out, limiting your ability to grow. As a business owner, you are going to have to juggle many different positions all the way from bookkeeping to marketing. As your business grows, you will start to learn all the different aspects of a business and really pick up on many different skills. The lessons and knowledge that you will learn when running your own business are extremely valuable.
